It is time to think "outside the box" when it comes to designing. 3D or 4D^TM Cross Stitcher has some great tools that can be used to create an amazing design. You just need to let go of the conventional way of making an embroidery design and have some fun.

In 4D^TM Cross Stitcher, click on the New icon then choose "Create QuickCross Design". Click Next. Choose the clipart file 4DEmbroidery\Samples\4DEmb\Pics2\Butterflies\Bu16.png that is included with your 4D^TM system and click Next.

In 3D Cross Stitcher, first download the clipart file as described below. Click on the Load Picture icon and choose the file. Click Next.

Note: If you do not have the butterfly clipart file, right-click [Bu16] to download it, and choose to save it to your computer in 3DEmbroidery\MyPics or 4DEmbroidery\MyPics. Then follow the instructions above.

Move the cropping handles until you only have the bottom left wing of the butterfly selected (you can crop off a little of the left tail). With the Proportional box checked and cross size 2.0 mm, change the number of crosses so the height is 60 mm (it does not need to be exact).

Click Next twice, letting the program choose the number and type of colors. Now click Finish.

Look at the Color Select area at the right of the screen. Make sure that the right box shows an eraser. This means that the right click will "erase" or delete the crosses where you click. Now choose the Cross Fill from the left tool bar. RIGHT-click in the white areas of cross stitch in the design. The white crosses will go away.

Go to Preferences and choose the Universal hoop 120 x 115 mm for 4D^TM or the 115 x 115 (2.0 mm crosses) mm hoop for 3D.

Box Select your stitches.

It may not look like much right now. Just wait! Place a check next to Use Multiply. Click Setup and ensure all three options are selected: Reflect Across, Reflect Down and Rotate. Click OK.

Now move your design into the bottom left quadrant of the hoop. It doesn’t have to be exactly in the area. Left-click anywhere in the work area.

Look what happened! You have created a beautiful kaleidoscope cross stitch!

Click Undo and move your element. Now left-click outside again. Wow, another beautiful cross stitch.

Undo and move the element as much as you want. If you create a design you want to keep, simply click on 3D Create Stitches and then Save .

By using part of a clipart picture, you can create something special with the Multiply option. Apply these principles when using embroidery designs and the Encore function in 3D Studio, 4D^TM Embroidery or 4D^TM Embroidery Extra.
