Have you ever wondered what size the design you are working on in your software really is? As you are adding or removing different sections to a design, does your final project have room to add or remove parts of the design?

Real SizeReal Size is a wonderful tool to see the embroidery you are working on as close as possible to the Real Size you set up in 3D or 4D™ Configure. Real Size allows you to Zoom In or Zoom Out as you are working on a design to see as much of the design as possible on the screen in the actual size it will stitch out. While working on a design, click Real SizeReal Size to quickly make sure the design is about the size you were planning it to be.

When working in 3D or 4D™ OrganizerOrganizer, Real SizeReal Size is a great tool to use to see your embroidery design in its glory! There is no selection box around the design in 4D™ Organizer and the design is displayed in the actual size!

The Real Size icon is found in 4D™ Embroidery, 4D™ Embroidery Extra, 4D™ Organizer, 4D™ Vision, 4D™ Stitch Editor, 4D™ Design Aligner, 4D™ Sketch, 4D™ Fabric Decorator, 4D™ Cross Stitcher, 3D Studio, 3D Organizer, 3D Vision, 3D Stitch Editor, 3D Sketch, 3D Fabric Decorator and 3D Cross Stitcher.

3D or 4D™ Configure is the backbone of your software. In 3D or 4D™ Configure, you set up your background color, grid color, theme (only in 4D™ Configure), how the colors are displayed, etc. 3D or 4D™ Configure is also where you enter the Real Size setting.

Either in the 3D or 4D™ Configure Wizard or on the System tab, setting the Real Size setting is quick and easy. Hold a ruler against your computer screen and measure the length of the on-screen ruler in millimeters or inches, as appropriate. (Inches can only be used in 4D™ Configure). Enter the measurement in the box and complete the Wizard or click Apply. The next time you open your 3D or 4D™ software, and you click Real SizeReal Size, your design will be displayed at real size! 3D or 4D™ Configure is also where you set up your Output File Format. Set the format to the embroidery format or machine you normally embroider on. When it comes to Husqvarna Viking, make sure to choose .vp3 file format! The .vp3 file format remembers the most information when saving your embroidery designs. It remembers Notes added to the design as well as the thread manufactures INCLUDING specialty threads! No matter what embroidery machine you have, always save your designs in the .vp3 file format. When you click Send 1Send 1 or Send 2Send 2, the design will automatically convert to the correct file format for your specific embroidery machine – for example, if you have a Designer I, in .shv format.

By setting the Output File Format in 3D or 4D™ Configure to the .vp3 file format, you will automatically be saving in .vp3 every time you click Save As Save As unless you manually change the option on the Save As screen!

Fun Facts to Know and Tell

Fun Facts

Do you know the history of Husqvarna Viking embroidery file formats? The first file format that Husqvarna Viking offered was the .hus file format. This file format remembered 29 colors. These 29 colors are found in the Quick Colors Standard Theme.  The .hus format does NOT remember the thread manufacturer – for example Robison-Anton Rayon 40.

The .vip format was the second file format introduced by Husqvarna Viking. With the .vip format, saving designs became much more colorful! With the .vip format, the thread manufacturer is now remembered! This means, if you create a design using Sulky Rayon 40 color number 1187 – Mimosa Yellow, the .vip format will remember exactly that! The .vip format also remembers any notes you have added to the design.

vp3 format

The newest format, and the ideal format to save all your embroidery designs in, is .vp3. The .vp3 format not only remembers the thread manufacturer, it also remembers specialty threads. If you create a design using Robison-Anton Rayon Twist 35 – the .vp3 format will remember the exact specialty thread! The notes that can be saved with a design are also remembered with the .vp3 format.

In closing, we wish you all a happy holiday season and a very Happy New Year! Good luck with all your holiday sewing and embroidering and remember, always save in the .vp3 format!

Best wishes from Husqvarna Viking

SOS

SOS* - What's Next?

Color is an important consideration in embroidery.  Whether or not you are changing the color in a design that you have purchased or creating your own design using the 4D or 3D Embroidery System, it is important to look at the impact of thread color and specialty threads.  This month’s SOS AHOY
newsletter will explore the use of color and techniques that can provide impact but not increase your design stitch count.

*SOS is a membership program which provides education and support of the Husqvarna Viking 4D and 3D Embroidery Systems. SOS is currently available in the US, Canada, and Australia.  Please visit your authorized Husqvarna Viking dealer to learn more and sign up today.
