Aligning designs within your hoop can be very tricky and time consuming.
While working in many of the 3D and 4DTM software modules, you will find an icon called Grid
.
Icon Index
The Grid icon
is a toggle in most modules - when it’s selected, the grid is turned on.
When it is deselected, the grid is turned off.
With the grid visible on screen aligning designs becomes quick and easy!
In the 3D and 4DTM software modules, the Grid Size is set in Preferences
.
Set your Grid Size from 5mm to 50mm. The default setting is 10mm in 3D Embroidery Studio,
4DTM Embroidery and 4DTM Embroidery Extra.
which shows the grid and is what those of you with 3D Stitch Editor see.

shows the grid with numbers on the even grid lines on all four sides of the grid.
hides the grid. These four grid options make it easier to align stitches, draw border shapes precisely, adjust stitch blocks, etc. You have total control over your editing capabilities.
The grid is initially set at 5mm in 4DTM Stitch Editor and can be adjusted between 5mm and 50mm.
The Grid icon is found in 4DTM Embroidery, 4DTM Embroidery Extra, 4DTM Stitch Editor, 4DTM Design Aligner, 4DTM Design Creator, 4DTM Sketch, 4DTM Fabric Decorator, 4DTM Cross Stitcher, 3D Studio, 3D Stitch Editor, 3D Design Splitter, 3D Sketch, 3D Digitizing, 3D Fabric Decorator and 3D Cross Stitcher.
Module Minute
3D or 4DTM Stitch Editor is a module that allows you to edit your designs.
In both 3D or 4DTM Stitch Editor, you begin with a BLANK SCREEN!
This can be scary; however with 3D or 4DTM Stitch Editor, you can have multiple pages open at one time.
Thus, bringing in your design (using Open
, View
, Find Designs
or Paste
) will open the first page.
Make sure to set your Hoop
first!
In 3D or 4DTM Stitch Editor you will find three tabs: Design, Modify and PatternMake.
With the Design tab, you can change colors, select sections of the design or display certain sections of the design while hiding other sections.
On the Modify tab, you can drastically change the way a design looks by Morphing, Modifying or adding a Border/Appliqué section to the design.
On the PatternMake tab, begin by Removing Needle Points in Fill sections
.
This will only affect the visible sections of the design. Then choose a stamp from the 13 possible menus.
To PatternMake the design, either use Single Stamp
to place one stamp at a time,
Stamp Line
to place stamps in a line in any direction. To stamp an entire area, choose Stamp Fill
.
Create one of a kind designs using all the great features of 3D or 4DTM Stitch Editor.
However, if you have 4DTM Stitch Editor, don’t forget to go to the Modify tab once finished with the design
and click Design Optimizer
. It will remove short stitches that are not necessary for the overall look of the design.
You won’t even notice they are gone and your design will stitch out that much faster!
Fun Facts to Know and Tell
Did you know you can change the Grid color in 3D or 4DTM Configure? When working in your 3D or 4DTM software, most of the time the dark blue/black default grid color works great. However when working in 3D or 4DTM Cross Stitcher, it is helpful to change the grid color to something totally different.
If the grid is toggled on in 3D or 4DTM Cross Stitcher, you have three options for viewing grid lines.
In Preferences
on the Screen tab, grid lines can be shown in Uniform - every line shows, 5 lines - every five lines
there will be a grid line, or 10 lines - every ten lines there will be a grid line. However if the grid is toggled on,
you will always have grid lines for every cross stitch block. Changing the setting in Screen Preferences will make every
5 or every 10 grid lines show darker. If dark blue/black is your grid color, you may not be able to tell the difference.
Go to 3D or 4DTM Configure and change the grid color to a bright color then click Apply. Now, in 3D or 4DTM
Cross Stitcher you will see the ‘darker’ 5 or 10 grid lines because they will be black!
