Do you feel your body moving closer to your computer screen as you work on a design? Your head, neck, shoulders and even eyes get closer to your computer screen as you try to move a stitch point over slightly to the right. When working on a design in any of the 3D or 4DTM Software modules, zooming in or out makes designing easier and much more relaxing!

Icon Encyclopedia

Icon Index

Zoom In Zoom In works four different ways. If you click the Zoom In icon Zoom In, then click within the work area (where your design is located), you will zoom in a little closer to the design centering on the area where you clicked.

A second way to use Zoom In Zoom In is to click the Zoom In icon Zoom In, then click and drag a rectangle around the specific area you want to zoom in on. When you release the mouse button, the screen will be filled with the area you drew the rectangle around. This allows you to relax your head, neck, shoulders etc because you are moving the design towards you instead of you needing to move closer to your design!

A third way to use Zoom In Zoom In is to use the Zoom by Percentage method. Using the Ctrl key on your keyboard along with a number will zoom in based on the percentage associated with that number. To find the list of numbers to press, click View along the top toolbar, then click Zoom and the list will appear. If you have arthritic hands or trouble using a mouse, this method is ideal for you!

If you have a wheel mouse, there is another way to use Zoom In Zoom In. Hold down the Ctrl key and move the wheel to zoom. Rolling the wheel one way will zoom in and rolling the wheel the other way will zoom out!

The Zoom In icon is found in 4DTM Embroidery, 4DTM Embroidery Extra, 4DTM Vision, 4DTM Stitch Editor, 4DTM Design Aligner, 4DTM Design Creator, 4DTM Sketch, 4DTM Fabric Decorator, 4DTM PictureStitch, 4DTM Cross Stitcher, 4DTM Family Portrait, 3D Studio, 3D Vision, 3D Stitch Editor, 3D Design Splitter, 3D Sketch, 3D Digitizing, 3D Fabric Decorator, 3D PictureStitch and 3D Cross Stitcher.

Module Minute

3D or 4DTM Vision is a module that allows you to ‘see’ what your design will look like before you ever stitch out the embroidery. In both 3D and 4DTM Vision, you begin with the Background Wizard where you choose either Garment or Fabric in 3D Vision or Garment, Quilt Block or Fabric in 4DTM Vision. Also included in 4DTM Vision are garments from Unique PatternsTM, quilt blocks from the Electric Quilt® Company, and fabric from RJR Fabrics.

Once the background is set, and you open or paste your embroidery, 3D or 4DTM Vision has many tools to view your finished embroidery before stitching out with special features like Appliqué or Thread Effects.

Select Appliqué Applique allows you to click around the area where the appliqué fabric will go. When you finish selecting the area, choose the appliqué fabric to view what it will look like!

Thread Effects dialog

Thread Effects Thread Effects, only available in 4DTM Vision, lets you choose a thread color and set a Twin Needle size – as well as a second color for that twin needle if you choose!

With Thread Effects Thread Effects you can also choose a thread and set a Dual Thread – meaning two threads going through the same needle at the same time. With 4DTM Vision’s Thread Effects, you can see what those two threads will look like together before stitching the final design out!

Fun Facts

Fun Facts to Know and Tell

Add Beads Beads is an icon found in 3D or 4DTM Vision that allows you to see what adding beads to your design will look like. Once you have added beads, you always have the option to use Remove Decoration Remove Decoration to remove ALL of the beads.

However, when you are adding beads, if you add one and it’s just not in the right place, stop adding beads. Hold down your Ctrl key then click on the last bead to remove it. You can continue to remove more beads by holding down the Ctrl key and clicking on the last bead. However, if you right-click to release the Add Beads Beads tool, you cannot remove individual beads. You must use Remove Decoration Remove Decoration and start over.

SOS* - What's Next?
In February, SOS members continue to explore color and the color wheel. For many of us, we are comfortable with certain color schemes. With the help of the color wheel we will explore new color schemes and how to audition colors in your projects by using your 4D or 3D Embroidery System! These tips may save you time and money.
